On 12 October 2019, 10 police officers from Harhar GSU Camp in Garissa County, on patrol along the Damajale Harehare road near the Kenya-Somalia border, died as their vehicle ran through an explosive device. Police forces later identified the group leader that planted the device as an Al Shabaab militant who joined the group in 2012.
