The A78 near West Kilbride was closed for a period yesterday after an unexploded device was found in the beach. Police were alerted to the object just after 3pm, and the road was closed for five minutes whilst specialist officers detonated the device. A Police Scotland spokesperson said:"Around 3.15 pm on Tuesday October 18 police were called following the discovery of what was thought to be an unexploded ordnance device on West Kilbride beach. "The EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) attended and the item was detonated. There was no requirement for any evacuation. "As a precaution, the A78 was closed for approximately five minutes during the detonation."
