Undefined Explosive Device (UED) event in Saxony, Espenhein area, Germany on Thu 13th October 2022

Authorities are planning to defuse an unexploded WWII-era bomb discovered in the Espenhain area of Rotha, south of Leipzig, Oct. 13. The 250-kg device was discovered in a field and authorities have established an 800-meter (0.5-mile) safety radius from the bomb, instructing person to leave the area and businesses to close. Local reports state that 13 industrial units have closed temporarily. Authorities state that the Autobahn 72 between the Kitzscher junctions (from the south) and Espenhain (coming from the north) will also be closed. Local roads will also be affected. The bomb will be deactivated once the area has been cleared. Police will likely implement road diversions near the affected area, causing increased traffic congestion. Officials did not immediately provide a specific time for when the disposal operation will conclude. Advice Allow additional time for travel in Rotha, Oct. 13. Seek alternative routes if planning to travel near the affected area during the disposal operation. Adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
