Police arrested a Naxalite [Left Wing Extremist, LWE] of the New Sastra People’s Morcha (NSPM), a splinter group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), identified as Umesh Giri alias Umesh Das, from Besmail Forest under Bagodar Police Station limits in Giridih District of Jharkhand on October 8, reports The Pioneer. Police also recovered two country-made pistols, nine 8 mm cartridges and four 8 mm live cartridges from him. Umesh Giri extorted ‘levy’ (extortion money) by intimidating the businessmen. Superintendent of Police (SP), Amit Renu said that in the Atka area of Bagodar and adjoining Bokaro and Hazaribagh Districts, many incidents were being carried out continuously by the NSPM outfit in the past.
