On 6 October 2022, unknown militants targeted a hotel with rockets in Basrah city. The militants specifically targeted the room of the Sunni Chairman of the Iraqi Ulama Association in addition to damaging 20 other rooms. The Chairman stated he was the primary target of the attack citing security footage but refused to publicly state who was behind the attack. Only material damages occurred.
