Unknown event in Hesse, Frankfurt area, Germany on Mon 10th October 2022
10th October 2022
German authorities announced yesterday that they had ordered nearly 20,000 people in a district of Frankfurt to leave their homes temporarily after a 500-kilogram bomb was found in World War II. Fire brigades in Frankfurt said that the American bomb was found yesterday morning in a construction workshop in the district of Bockenheim, which includes in particular a university campus. She explained that she had asked the neighborhood’s residents to evacuate it before Wednesday morning, when the bomb would be dismantled. Despite the passage of 77 years since the end of the Second World War, the territory of German cities is still littered with unexploded bombs that are constantly discovered during excavations of construction sites. In 2017, 65,000 people in Frankfurt were forced to temporarily evacuate their homes after the discovery of a 1.4-tonne bomb. In December 2021, a World War II bomb exploded in a construction site near Munich train station in the south of the country, injuring four people and disrupting rail traffic for some time.
