A live grenade was found on a riverbank and detonated in Seward. SEWARD, Neb. -- A live grenade was found on a riverbank and detonated in Seward. The Seward County Sheriff's Office said they received a call at 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 18 for a reported possible explosive device at 294th Road and Bluff Road. Officers said they were made aware of the situation after two juveniles were reportedly walking down the riverbank when they saw a hand grenade near the edge of the river. SCSO called for help from the Nebraska State Patrol Bomb Squad. NSP said a trooper was able to determine that the grenade was a live fragmentation grenade. The grenade was destroyed after a member of the Bomb Squad conducted a controlled detonation at the scene. SCSO said they would like to remind everyone to contact the nearest police agency when coming in contact with unexploded items and to leave them untouched.
