UPDATE September 20, 2 p.m.: A bomb from the Second World War was discovered in a wooded area between the clinker basin and Schmachtenhagen. The next steps are now clear. In the afternoon, mushroom pickers found a 250-kilogram American-made bomb in a wooded area in Oranienburg . The police announced on Sunday evening (September 18th). "The bomb has a mechanical detonator," explained Matthias Peter, head of the Oranienburg police department. The city of Oranienburg and the explosive ordnance disposal service had been informed. On Monday (September 19) there was new information. "The discovery site in the middle of the forest between the old clinker basin and Schmachtenhagen has been cordoned off within a radius of 50 meters with red and white flutter tape," said Matthias Peter on Sunday. Regarding the possible restricted circuit and the question of whether the bomb can be transported or whether it has to be detonated, the service group leader says: “Nothing else happens tonight. Everything else will be decided by the Oranienburg Public Order Office and the KMBD on Monday.” Two intact detonators The bomb discovery at the clinker basin had kept the fire brigade and the police in suspense on Sunday evening. The city of Oranienburg will provide more information on Monday. According to city spokeswoman Eike-Kristin Fehlauer, the 250-kilogram American-made bomb has two intact detonators. "At the moment, the city administration and the KMBD are already in the process of agreeing on how to proceed," says the mail from 8.30 a.m. Detonation or defusing? The bomb must be uncovered. She is in a muddy spot. "Depending on the condition of the bomb, it should probably either be defused or detonated," says Eike-Kristin Fehlauer. "We are urged to stay away from the site," the city said. Mayor Alexander Laesicke (independent) thanks the emergency services in the message, who "reacted professionally and prudently" on Sunday. Together they are working to "remove the bomb as soon as possible". The current bomb find is a kind of warning, can be interpreted from the words. He would show "that we must not sit back". Together with the state and federal government, we must continue to work tirelessly to find and defuse the “many bombs in our world”. More news from the city There was another announcement from the city on Monday afternoon. "In the meantime, the city administration and the KMBD have agreed on how to proceed," it says. Because the bomb is in a muddy spot and is also in poor condition, it has to be detonated on site. The blast will take place on Thursday, September 22nd. A restricted area of 900 meters around the site where the bomb was found will come into effect. On Tuesday (September 20), the city published the restricted area, which will be set up on Thursday from 9.45 a.m. The fire brigade and police will secure the restricted area, and a drone will also be used to support this. Around 20 people live in the restricted area and will be informed personally. Also affected are the commercial area at the Lehnitzschleuse, part of the Bernauer Straße (B273) that leads to Schmachtenhagen and a section of the Havel including the Lehnitzschleuse. The city expects the restricted area to be lifted around noon, provided everything goes according to plan. Further neutralizations in preparation The city has been preparing for another neutralization for months. There are two anomalies at the Friedenthal lock. One of them is at the bottom of the Havel. Their exposure will be particularly complicated. Both bombs lie at a depth of 12 meters and are thus deeper than all bombs found in Oranienburg so far. "The salvage is expected to take place in autumn of this year, the preparatory work is in full swing," the city announced in mid-July.
