On 18 July 2022, unknown militants detonated an car bomb targeting an engineer in Rifai district, Thi Qar. The vehicle was parked in front of a housing unit provided to engineers by their company. The company is responsible for Chinese school construction project. Only material damages occurred. The attack was motivated by a history of disagreement.
