A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre carrying a bounty of INR 100,000 on his head was arrested by the Security Forces (SFs) from the Tulsi Reserve Forest under the Maithili Police Station limits in Malkangiri District of Odisha on July 10, reports The Pioneer. The arrested Maoist was identified as Laxman Podiami alias Laxman Kurami, a native of Bastar District in Chhattisgarh, and had joined the Maoist fold in 2017. During the search, the SFs seized one country-made gun from his possession. Laxman was involved in many cases in Malkangiri District as well as Chhattisgarh including destruction of the Temurupalli Gram Panchayat (village level local self-Government institution) office and looting of Government properties under the Maithili Police Station limits in 2019 and killing of a civilian named Sukumar Mandal in 2020.
