On 20 June 2022, Ukrainian forces launched a missile strike on the drilling rigs in the Eastern Black Sea, also known as the 'Boyko Towers', which were captured by Russia in 2014. The Boyko Towers were used not only for gas production in the Black Sea, but also for surveillance. The head of the Crimean occupying administration claimed that civilians were wounded.
