On 29 May 2022, in the rural area of El Retorno municipality (Guaviare), suspected members of the Jorge Briceno FARC dissident faction set off an explosive device to attack a military patrol, resulting in one military soldier injured. The attack happened in retaliation for the recent killing of FARC leader Gentil Duarte in Venezuela; the Jorge Briceno front is allied with the Ivan Mordisco and Gentil Duarte FARC dissident fronts. There were no fatalities.
