Incendiary event in Widnes, Dundalk Road area, United Kingdom on Mon 30th May 2022

A suspected Second World War bomb was found in a car in a Cheshire car park and led to 'controlled explosion'. The bomb was left in a car and police were spotted on Dundalk Road in Widnes at around 7.50pm on Monday (May 30). Footage taken on a mobile phone was shared on social media, showing several police cars in the area of Dundalk Field. In the video, you can hear police counting down before seeing a huge explosion in the fields. According to eyewitnesses, it was unclear where the device came from but nearby roads near Asda on Widnes Road were closed. The Echo reports that children were spotted playing football just metres away. Cheshire Police has since confirmed that a member of the public attended the Widnes Police Station at around 6.20pm to hand in a "suspected WW2 incendiary device." The device had been left in the man's car in a car park on Widnes Road. No arrests were made, police confirmed. A spokesman added: "As a precautionary measure the decision was made to put a cordon in place and EOD were called to the scene. The device was taken away to a nearby field, safety measures were put in place and a controlled explosion was carried out by EOD."
