IED event in Tillaberri, Torodi area, Niger on Fri 7th January 2022
7th January 2022
The Nigerien President Mohamed Bazoum announced that three Nigerien policemen were killed Friday in the explosion of an improvised mine in the department of Torodi (south-west) near Burkina Faso. A security source told AFP that the three policemen, members of the special forces in an anti-jihadist operation, were killed "when their vehicle jumped on an improvised explosive device" on the road linking the department of Torodi to the border with Burkina Faso. At least three other gendarmes were injured in the explosion, the source added. The department of Torodi is located in the south-western region of Tillabéri, which is in the so-called "three borders" area between Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali, which has become a haven for Sahelian jihadists, including the Islamic State in the Great Sahara (EIGS).
