On 19 May 2022, a grenade fired by unidentified assailants from a grenade launcher exploded near the campaign headquarters of a mayoral candidate in Barangay Tangcal (Tubaran, Lanao del Sur, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao). There were no casualties nor damaged property. Special elections are set to be held in Barangay Tangcal on 24 May, after the Commission on Elections declared the failure of the regular elections on 9 May in 14 Lanao del Sur barangays (including Barangay Tangcal) due to election day violence.
