Early Thursday morning in Esmeraldas, located on the northern border of the country, two car bombs exploded simultaneously in two places in the city. The National Police confirmed that the explosives used in the vehicles were high impact. Interior Minister Patricio Carrillo said that five people had been arrested in connection with the detonations. There were no victims.
