5th May 2022
Yesterday (05 May) a British 250 kgs bomb from WWII was defused in Münster. It was found on occasion of a detection of the area in question; why this was detected is not mentioned. The fuse at the back of the bomb ("Heckzünder") had to be blasted off so there were two bangs. All went well and was quickly over. Horst Schöwe and Peter Asmussen from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service defused a bomb near the university hospital on Thursday (5 May). On Thursday (May 5th) Horst Schöwe (left) and Peter Asmussen from the ordnance disposal service (KBD) defused a British 250-kilogram dud (photo) at around 12:50 p.m. The defusing caused a bang twice because the rear fuse had to be blown off. Immediately after the defusing, the roadblocks were lifted and the evacuation ended. Around 800 residents, including the 130 residents of the Martin Luther House, were evacuated. Around 150 members of the fire brigade, police and aid organizations were deployed with the KBD. 14 people had gathered at the care center on Sentruperhöhe.
