Incendiary event in Loire-Atlantique, Saint-Nazaire Conservatory area, France on Tue 26th April 2022
26th April 2022
At around 11am this Tuesday morning, a worker on the Conservatory extension site in rue Pierre-de-Bayard in Saint-Nazaire uncovered an explosive device with his backhoe. By reflex, the man put earth on it because it was starting to leak, before giving the alarm. A security perimeter was quickly set up by the police, the fire brigade and the town's services. Around thirty people living nearby were evacuated and accommodated in the Maison de la Mutualité until the device was neutralised. The deminers arrived from Nantes around midday. They identified a small phosphorus bomb dating from the Second World War. They detonated it on site at around 12.35pm.
