On 21 April 2022, an IED by Al Shabaab militants detonated, targeting police forces at a checkpoint at the Gubadley village neighborhood in Mogadishu - Karan (Banadir). One police officer was killed and three others were injured. The IED was hidden inside a pouch containing one million Somali shillings that was seized as tax collection by one of the police officers. This is presumably the first reported use of such tactic by the group.
