On 9 November 2021, a landmine planted by unknown armed group detonated killing 2 civilians and injuring a third in the Al Ma area of Al-Zubair district, Basrah province. The landmine detonated while the civilians were collecting scrap metal. The injured person and one of the fatalities are minors. It is unclear if the landmine was newly planted or an explosive remnant of war.
