On 3 January 2022, in Thantlang town (Hakha district, Chin State), the Myanmar military forces used improvised explosive devices to set fire to houses in the town. The Thantlang Placement Affairs Committee reported that between September and December 2021, there were more than 18 incidents of fire caused by military troops, burning down 690 houses and 28 religious buildings.
