On 24 November 2021, a magnetic IED, belonging to Al Shabaab militants, attached to a private vehicle detonated, targeting the Kismayo district commissioner and a senior police officer in Kismayo town (Kismaayo, Lower Juba). The vehicle was parked on the roadside when the IED exploded. The targeted people were not in the vehicle. One civilian was killed and another civilian bystander was injured. Al Shabaab claimed responsibility.
