A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre was killed in an encounter with Security Force personnel near a bridge in a forest, located about six kilometers from Bharanda Police Station in Narayanpur District of Chhattisgarh on January 24, reports The Hindu. Superintendent of Police, Girija Shankar Jaiswal said, the gunfight took place at around 1.30 am [IST], when a team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was out on a search operation, and after the exchange of fire stopped, the body of a Maoist and a muzzle loading gun were recovered from the spot. The slain Maoist was identified as Manu Nureti, adds The Indian Express.
