Militants exchanged fire with the Security Forces (SFs) during an encounter in Chek Nowgam area in Shopian District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on January 26, reports Daily Excelsior. The SFs had launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Chek Nowgam area of Shopian following information about presence of militants there, and an encounter took place when militants opened firing at the SFs which too retaliated with gunfire. However, no casualties were reported so far on either side, the Police said.
