On Wednesday, 29 December 2021, the Directorate of Information and Public Relations of the Armed Forces (Dirpa) announced in a press release that a Famas unit in operation in the Guire area was attacked by an armed terrorist group following a complex attack with Improvised Explosive Device and heavy weapons. The attack left eight people dead, seven injured and two vehicles destroyed. This toll has risen to 15 dead, according to the latest Dirpa communiqué. However, the Dirpa announced that 38 terrorists had been neutralised.
