On 19 February 2022, in Pay Lel village of Kanbalu township (Kanbalu district, Sagaing region), the military fired about 30 artillery rounds, killing 4 civilians who were hiding in their house. Two others, one from the same house, were also shot and killed. Locals said there were no previous armed clashes or PDFs in the village. They reported that the military fired at those who ran away and many villagers went missing.
