On 21 February 2022, NSCDC operatives on a rescue mission ran into IEDs planted by Niger militiamen in Galadima Kogo (Shiroro, Niger) during an attack to the village. The militiamen burnt down 8 houses and 3 buildings housing the joint task force. 10 persons were killed: 4 NSCDC personnel died as a result of the IED explosion and 6 civilians were killed by militiamen. Other sources report that the Niger state government claim the assailants are Boko Haram militants.
