On 23 March 2022, in Lai Zar town of Waingmaw township (Myitkyina district, Kachin state), the military forces fired five rounds of heavy artillery shells at the KIO headquarters in Laiza at around 4 am. Two artillery shells exploded on the Chinese side. Casualties unknown.
