On 14 March 2022, near Pan Thay village of Katha township (Katha district, Sagaing region), the Katha PDF fired two rockets at two military ships travelling from Mandalay to Katha on the Ayeyarwady river. One of the rockets hit the center of a ship, causing major damage. The NUG reported 30 military soldiers died and five others were injured.
